The "Product Groups" function is used to structure quote items in terms of content and calculation. Depending on the industry, possible product groups are categories such as hardware, software, services, payment mode, etc. If you want to make groups available globally, they must be created in advance in Salesforce as data records in the "Product Groups" object.
The object “Product Groups”
Create the desired product groups using the appropriate tab in Salesforce.

The configuration includes the following settings:

Produktgruppen und zugehörige Produkte
Weisen Sie den Produktgruppen die entsprechenden Produkte zu. Dies können Sie entweder über die Themenliste am Produktgruppen-Datensatz tun oder direkt am Produkt über die vorhandenen Lookup-Felder:
Einem Produkt können mehrere Produktgruppen zugeordnet sein - die Reihenfolge spielt zwar für die Summenkalkulation keine Rolle, aber durchaus, wenn eine Kombination von Produktgruppen mit einer Produkteigenschaft verknüpft ist.
Produktgruppen und Produkteigenschaften
Wie Produkte können auch Produktgruppen über Produkteigenschaften verfügen. Wenn z.B. für alle Produkte aus dem Bereich Lizenz eine Laufzeit abgefragt werden soll oder wenn für alle Produkte aus einer Gruppe dieselbe Staffelpreisberechnung verwendet wird, lässt sich dies am besten über die Produktgruppe steuern. Produktgruppen können auch zur Definition von Rabattregeln herangezogen werden. Näheres hierzu im Abschnitt "Discount Matrix".Produktgruppen in der Angebotsvorlage
Elemente der Angebotsvorlage, z.B. Summen-, Textelemente, Spaltenüberschriften etc., denen Produktgruppe(n) zugewiesen sind, werden automatisch eingeblendet, wenn Produkte mit derselben Produktgruppen-Kombination hinzugefügt werden. Sofern man die Produkte wieder aus dem Angebot löscht, werden auch die Angebotselemente wieder ausgeblendet.
Das Sperren eines Angebotselements hat keinen Einfluss auf dieses Verhalten. Auch gesperrte Angebotselemente werden dynamisch ein- und ausgeblendet.

Produktgruppen erleichtern das Reporting. Wie bei jedem Objekt in Salesforce haben Sie natürlich auch bei Produktgruppen die Möglichkeit, die Ergebnisse in Berichten und Dashboards auszuwerten, z.B. über den Berichtstyp "Produktgruppen mit Produkten und Angebotspositionen":

Product groups and associated products
Assign the corresponding products to the product groups. You can do this either via the related list on the product group record or directly on the product via the existing lookup fields:

A product can have several product groups assigned to it - the order does not matter for the sum calculation, but it certainly does if a combination of product groups is linked to a product property.

This third product group is only used for calculating sums and sum discounts. It has no function with regard to the positioning of a product when it is inserted into the editor and cannot be used for product properties, discount or tax rules. |
Product groups and Product Properties
Like products, product groups can also have product properties. If, for example, a period of validity is to be queried for all products from the License section or if the same bulk price calculation is to be used for all products from a group, this can best be controlled via the product group. Product groups can also be used to define discount rules. For more details, see the Discount Rules - Discount Matrix section.
Product Groups in the Quote Template
Items of the quote template, e.g. totals, text items, column headers etc., to which product group(s) are assigned, are automatically shown when products with the same product group combination are added. If the products are deleted from the quote, the quote items will also be hidden again.
Locking a quote item does not affect this behavior. Locked quote items are also dynamically shown and hidden.

Reporting in Salesforce
Product groups make reporting easier. As with any object in Salesforce, you can of course also evaluate the results of product groups in reports and dashboards, e.g. via the report type “Produktgruppen mit Produkten und Angebotspositionen“ (translated to “Product groups with products and quote line items"):
